Fighting the Pipeline: A Presentation by Appalachian Voices

July 19, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Appalachian Voices works at the nexus of America’s ongoing shift from dirty energy to solar, wind and other 21st-century energy sources. We defend our region from mountaintop removal coal mining, fracked-gas pipeline building, and other harmful practices while promoting clean energy sources that generate local jobs and community wealth and that sustain Appalachia’s incomparable natural heritage.

Appalachian Voices would like to invite you to learn more about how you can help defeat two proposed fracked-gas pipelines through civil engagement. The Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines would cut through a combined 900 miles through pristine forests, farms, and wetlands and cross (and potentially contaminate) thousands of headwater streams and rivers.

As Virginia residents, we have an opportunity this summer to engage in the state-level Clean Water Act certification process to discourage the VA Department of Environmental Quality from providing a permit to pipeline builders to destroy our Virginia waterways. Join us in learning about and fighting the pipelines, and together we can protect our local environment and communities.
