Virginians have an opportunity to defeat the two proposed fracked-gas pipelines- the Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines – that would cut across our state, through 900 miles through pristine forests, farms, and wetlands and cross (and potentially contaminate) thousands of headwater streams and rivers. Inter-state pipelines require approval at both the federal and state level. As Virginia residents, we can engage in the state-level Clean Water Act certification process to discourage the VA Department of Environmental Quality from providing a permit to pipeline builders to destroy our Virginia waterways. Our window for voicing our concerns and recommendations at the state level is quickly closing. Appalachian Voices will present a brief overview of the proposed pipelines and detail direct actions we can take right now and in the coming month to make our opinions heard to the state.
